Snowman

For a Christmas present, I made a snowman for my friend. It looks adorable and I'm so glad it came out nicely. I started a week before Christmas and it came out a few days before break. I love it so much and I think my friend will too.

Mushroom Bowl

This first project I completed this year (23-24) was my mushroom bowl! I wanted to try making a different kind of mushroom design, since I usually make Turkey Tail mushrooms. I needed a different type of mushroom. The outside is white with mushrooms on them. The inside is green with vines on the rim. Sadly, the vines aren't visible on the background. If I had to change one thing, I would have chosen a different background color or a different shade. I'm glad with how the outside turned out, but disappointed with the inside.

Bird Sculpture

Our final project this year was to make birds for class. The bird I was trying to paint after is a White-Breasted Nuthatch. They are really adorable! The bird doesn't match what an actually White-Breasted Nuthatch would look like though. The blue came out a little darker than I expected, which was a little disappointing. Overall, it was a fun project and I enjoy having it displayed around my house.

Fox Sculpture

This is a fox sculpture that I made for one of my lower school friends! She really liked it and it was one of my favorite small projects that I made this year. I enjoyed making something semi-realistic because most of my projects are very mystical/fictional. While the fox is a little lopsided, I think it gives it character and makes it twice as cute!

Cottagecore Bowl

Originally for the Mordechai Anielewicz Arts Competition, I was going to make a bowl and a cup. I ran out of time, so the bowl was put to the side for later use. I decided to paint a scene on the inside of a small cottage and a bunch of trees. This was also rushed (like all of the projects at the end of the year), but I think it turned out pretty good for a painting using just underglaze. It was harder to use underglaze but it was awesome to try something new! Sadly there are two cracks in the bowl, but the bowl is just for decoration and not food!!

Tile Project

I forgot to update my tiles to the finished projects. This is my tile! I am really happy with the color choice and I like that I chose a color that I don't usually use. I wish I switched two of the colors but it still looks great! The background color actually becomes a rust color if it is over a textured surface. It gave this beautiful texture near the edges but also in dimples that were left by fingerprints. Overall, I am very happy with how the tiles came out and they are one of my favorite things I've made.

Mordechai Anielewicz Arts Competition

Mordechai Anielewicz Arts Competition is an arts competition about the Holocaust. For this project the theme was the children in the concentration camps. The inside of the bowl is supposed to be more child-like while the outside is the harsh reality of the camps. I am a little disappointed in the outcome because I think I could have done so much better. As I learned recently (5/11) I won second place for 3D in this competition!! I'm really proud that this did so good even though I thought it didn't!

Strawberry Cup

This cup is one of the first things I threw on the wheel. It's a lot smaller than it looks but it's still cute! I just wanted to make something fun and cute. My friend sent me a picture at the beginning of the year to make strawberry cups and now I can say that I made one! Some of the strawberries are quirky but thats what makes them special.

Dragon Bowl

Wise, mystical beast

how your graceful colors shine

as you fly through the air,

catching various eyes

Strong, powerful beast

with the strength of a thousand men

will you be peaceful,

or bring the world to an end?

You give power to the weak

and wisdom to our minds

What else can you do,

behind that disguise?

Strong and powerful

Beautiful and kind

What wonders of the world do you hide?

And will we ever, with our minds,

be able to find them, wherever they hide?

Bowl

This is my first wheel thrown bowl! Its lopsided and off center, but it was my first bowl so I decided to save it. I decided to use warmer colors since I usually use cooler tones like blues and purples. The outside glaze comes off black or gold depending on how the light hits it! I was really excited to use a glaze like that, where its a combination of two colors. I think this is such a cute bowl and I love the colors that I picked!

Butterflies

My friend made these butterflies for her animal project. One class we decided to just put them in the kiln and glaze them when they were done. We just picked out different glazes and just slapped the random colors on them. They came out beautiful and I wish I could remember the glaze for the middle butterfly. I was really glad to do something nice with my friend before she stopped doing ceramics.

Frog Dish

This dish is supposed to look like a frog. Its mostly just a green dish with a smiley face, but I still think its cute! Sometimes the simple cute things are the best to make. It now holds things like rubber bands and paperclips, along with a mini stapler. :)

Duo Cups: 3. Hand Based Handles

These two cups don't look similar, but their handles are what make them match. This cup is for my left hand, based on how weird I hold my cup with that hand. I usually only put two fingers into the handle when I hold a cup with my left hand. I picked out a random glaze which gave this beautiful green and rusty feel. Many people says it feels like a war artifact, which I think fits. This is one of my favorite mugs that I made because of how unexpected the outcome was.

This cup is the duo to the war artifact and this handle is based off my right hand. With my right hand, I hold mugs with three fingers in the handle and my pinky underneath. Sadly, I didn't plan for the shrinking of the kiln and this can only fit two fingers. I wanted to try a new technique which you can see very slightly on the inside. I tried using wax to cover spots I wanted stars (the yellow dots) and then painted the rest black. I was really excited this worked and happy that I was able to try out a new technique.

Duo Cups: 2. Cat and Mouse

This project started because I really wanted to make a cat cup! This is just a cream cat with green eyes. While I am unsure about how to drink out of it, this is such a cute mug. After I made this cat, I needed a duo. What is a better duo than a cat and a mouse?
Here we have the duo of our cat, a mouse! For this mouse, I used the tail to make a wavy and dynamic handle. I love how thick this mug is. The cat mug is very slender which fits a cat's physique, and the mouse mug is thick and chunky, like a real mouse.

Duo Cups: 1. Mushrooms

This is the first mushroom cup. It has yellow fungus on the left side (left picture) based off of the orange mushrooms that grow on trees. These mushrooms are traditionally Chicken of The Woods (Laetiporus sulphureus), which are editable and taste like chicken! On the right side (left picture) are puffball mushrooms, which can grow to incredible sizes. I added a small door and a bird to the front to feel mystical. The back side of the first mushroom cup has red mushrooms (right picture). I love the way tradition red mushrooms look and I wanted to add some for fun! Although they do not have white spots, they would have been Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria), which are poisonous!

This is the second mushroom cup which has gotten the fine name of: The Hobbit Hole. Again, we have the orange mushrooms around the whole cup, but this time we are looking closer. There is a huge door and several windows. Other than the cup being adorably lopsided, the crooked windows and off-center circle make this piece feel like a home in the forest. We also have puffball mushrooms here, but no red ones.
